Sustenance Mural

A downtown brick wall will soon be brought to life with imagery honoring one of Lawrence’s most precious resources–our food and hospitality industry workers. In 2020, Van Go received an Innovative Partnerships Grant from the Kansas Creative Arts Industry Commission (KCAIC). This grant is designed to facilitate an innovative partnership between art and non-arts organization. For this project, Van Go partnered with the Lawrence Restaurant Association and employed 14-18-year-old Apprentice Artists to create a mural honoring the food and hospitality industry and their contributions to support fellow front-line workers and the community as a whole throughout the pandemic. This project was funded in part by the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission, which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Department of Labor's Workforce Investment and Opportunities Act Grant, and the Ethel and Raymond Rice Foundation.
